Deployments and Intercepts

List of successful deployments:

  • Central Texas: May 2015, Probe 3 - no intercept.

  • Mangum, Oklahoma: May 20th, 2019, Probe 1 - Intercept missed tornado core by 700 feet.

  • Wynnewood, Oklahoma: April 22nd, 2020, Probe 2 - No intercept, tornado moved to the north.

  • Southwest Kansas: May 21st, 2020, Probe 2 - No intercept.

  • Southwest Kansas: May 21st, 2020, Probe 1 - Recorded pressure drop inside weak tornado as it moved over probe vehicle.

  • Selden, Kansas: May 24th, 2021, Probe 1 - First successful direct hit from a tornado! recorded pressure, temperature and humidity in addition to 4k 360 degree video.

  • Macon, Mississippi: February 17, 2022, Probe 1 - First winter deployment. Also first deployment outside of traditional tornado alley. No intercept.

  • Toomsuba, Mississippi: March 22, 2022, Probe 1 - Probe deployed. Tornado missed probe but nearly hit multiple storm chasers to the east.

  • Gilmore City, Iowa: April 12, 2022, Probe 1A & Probe 1B - Large EF-2 tornado stalled and then moved North-Northeast. Data measured from strong RFD winds.

  • Crowell, Texas: May 4th, 2022, Probe 1A - Probe deployed in front of two tornadoes. During probe recovery, found that the probe had been run over by a storm chaser's vehicle, totaling the onboard camera. No video was recoverable, and the data did not yield any useful information.
