What is CONVEX?

CONVEX, or the Collective Observations in/Near Vortices EXperiment, is a nationwide collaboration of storm chasers, atmospheric researchers, and extreme weather enthusiasts. CONVEX was founded in 2019 by Jared Stevenson, Blaize Edwards, and Evan Coverdill. The mission of CONVEX is to unite amateur and professional data gathering from tornadoes and other forms of severe weather.

How does CONVEX collect data?

CONVEX has a fleet of data gathering probes that get placed in the path of tornadoes. Equipped with high definition 360 degree cameras, our probes can also measure atmospheric pressure, temperature, and humidity. Additionally, CONVEX vehicles are equipped with a variety of atmospheric measuring instruments, allowing for a comprehensive view of information from in and around the storm.
